Save Time and Money by Preserving Summer’s Bounty
We asked Enough Time Moms’s blogger Shaina Olmanson to share some of her favorite tips for saving time and money in the kitchen. Shaina cans and freezes a wide variety of produce now, during the peak growing season so that she can save time and money during the winter months.
Two of our favorite ideas she mentioned are blanching and freezing zuchinni now so it’s ready and available to add to soups or bake into bread later and preserving tomatoes so you don’t have to rely on those expenseive and tasteless hot house varieties during the winter months.
Even if you’ve never canned before, you might want to consider the following facts about canning:
- It saves money
- It reduces shipping and packaging costs (which also makes it eco-friendly)
- It preserves the fresh flavors of the peak growing season
- There are no artificial additives so you know exactly what’s in it
